General Purpose of Job This position is responsible for assisting in the design, creation of relay settings, evaluation of time current coordination curves, project estimation, ordering materials and project management of protective relay, control and metering systems which will ensure substation, SCADA, RTU, reliable operations; provides technical support services for distribution automation, substation and transmission design; demand side management and other corporate communication and technical systems or electrical facilities; provides technical support to field relay technicians. The position will coordinate with various departments to complete underfrequency, conservation voltage reduction, and load shed programs. Education Minimum 4 Year / Bachelors Degree Major: electrical engineering with a concentration in power system analysis, system protection and relay maintenance Preferred Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Florida Experience Minimum Two (2) years progressively responsible experience in electrical utility operations or related environment. Preferred Experience or similar work with a distribution electric utility or related industry. Education and/or Experience Notes Qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Other Requirements * Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including a personal computer, printers, copy machines, telephone, and fax machine. * Ability to work irregular hours for assignment completion and flexibility to change scheduling and report to work on short notice during emergency situations. * A valid Florida driver’s license for regular driving privileges of a company vehicle; must have and maintain an acceptable driving record as determined by SECO Energy. * Frequent business travel to all areas of service territory required. * Normal work hours shall be eight (8) hours between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. * Successful completion of pre-employment background check, physical and drug screen. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Ability to exercise good judgment, sound reasoning skills and discretion in making independent decisions commensurate with responsibilities; maintain confidential information, and effectively manage stress and pressure in a frequently changing environment; multi-task calmly and effectively in all situations. * Ability to learn and become proficient in AutoCAD software, SEL Accelerator Software, protection & control of substations, power system metering and distribution automation. * Ability to learn and become proficient in project management techniques and procedures. * Ability to learn interfacing substation IED’s into Scada RTUs and communication concepts for substations and distribution automation is preferred. * Business communication skills with ability to read, analyze and interpret job related business periodicals and technical manuals; ability to prepare all types of business correspondence; design and produce reports with a high degree of detail and accuracy; and ability to express technical information clearly and simply while working closely with other personnel. * Effective interpersonal and communications skills including written, verbal and listening for interaction with employees, managers, subcontractors, government agencies and others; excellent planning and organizational skills; ability to work independently and productively and results oriented in order to complete assignments and meet deadlines. * Proficiency in the operation of personal computers and MS Office products; ability to acquire skills in the use of applicable corporate software programs. Prefer AutoCAD or similar computer aided design software. * Knowledge of electrical circuit analysis, transmission systems, fuse coordination and system protection. * Working knowledge of NESC and OSHA rules; thorough knowledge of the various manufacturers’ equipment in regard to protection of substation and transmission lines. * English is the primary business language. Second language in Spanish is desirable. Assist in analysis for station events to avoid or reduce severity of future outages. Design substation/distribution system automation facilities. * Complete AutoCAD drawings, conduit schedule, cable schedule and bill of materials for assigned projects. Review the design and construction projects with appropriate personnel to ensure understanding and agreement. * Grow in knowledge and application of relay specifications; accurate and timely relay calibration and relay setting calculations for transmission and substation facilities. * Perform design of new facilities and upgrades to new and existing substation, switching stations and capacitor stations. Maintain complete and accurate documentation of assigned substation projects. Provide design upgrades and support for SCADA. * Prepare cost estimations of assigned substation projects. * Plan, schedule and monitor projects to meet projected in-service dates. Provide technical support to field relay technicians.
